Spinning, spotting, and trying out the lift...

"You're a good teacher..."

It's a line from our show, said by Baby to Johnny. Very often, actors who work with David repeat this very line to him, with deep earnest appreciation. David is a terrific teacher, and this is evident in the tremendous gratitude expressed by performers worldwide who have worked with him in an audition or in a production or both.

This afternoon, David taught me how to spin properly. He has taught me dance steps before, but I had never attempted to truly conquer how to spin and spot. In our hotel room, we held our first lesson -- and I felt I understood how performers felt when they tell David, "You're a good teacher." He is. I have now learned to spin a bit better -- albeit not perfectly, still on the wobbly side -- and I can now be found practicing down the halls of our hotel spotting on the EXIT sign at the end of the hall. David has also taught me the lift -- still not THE lift, but a practice version of the lift, wherein he lies on the bed and lifts me from that position. It is thrilling, and I must confess I hope one day to do THE lift with him.
