This morning, David received his US citizenship! He now has dual Australian-American citizenships. The ceremony took place in a new courtroom downtown, and it was a lovely affair -- an incredibly diverse group of people, supported by family and friends, celebrating a momentous event in their lives together. The judge who officiated the ceremony was warm and wonderful. She teared up throughout her welcome speech to the group, and explained that the event always made her emotional. It was a special event indeed.
After the event and just outside the court room, volunteers were on hand to help the newly minted US citizens to register to vote -- so David did just that and is ready to vote! Next up, getting his US passport processed!
We are now citizens of the SAME country. We started off with no country in common... this immigration process has been a long journey, and we are so happy to celebrate David's additional citizenship.
